Aotearoa Ultra Marathon - Saturday 10th January 2026
Prepare yourself for an adventure like no other at the Aotearoa Ultra Marathon! Taking place in the stunning Banks Peninsula and Christchurch, this event will take you through some of Canterbury's most picturesque settings. Starting in Little River, you will embark on a breathtaking journey through Pigeon Bay, Port Levy, scale Mt Herbert, and enjoy spectacular views of Lyttleton and Akaroa Harbour as you make your way to Christchurch's Halswell Quarry and the Finish line.
The Aotearoa Ultra offers three exciting events to choose from. The first is the 101km Aotearoa Ultra, which can be completed solo or in a team of two. Starting at Little River, runners will make their way to Pigeon Bay and then ascend to the Summit Road, where they will enjoy stunning views of Akaroa Harbour. After returning to Pigeon Bay, they will head to Port Levy, up and over Mt Herbert, cross the Summit Road, Kennedy's Bush, The Crocodile before reaching the Halswell Quarry finish line. This route features 4,055m of elevation, making it an incredible challenge for even the most experienced runners.
The second event is the 53km Aotearoa Ultra, which can also be completed solo or in a team of two. Starting at Pigeon Bay, runners will make their way to Port Levy, and then ascend the Port Levy Spur car park. After the team changeover, they will continue to run for another 22km and 31km before reaching the finish line at Halswell Quarry.
Lastly, there is the 15km Aotearoa Warm Up, which is a solo event. Starting at Gebbies Pass, runners will make their way to Halswell Quarry, enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way.
Throughout the run, participants will experience some of New Zealand's most picturesque scenery, created by some of the country's early volcanoes. The route is challenging, but the views are worth the effort.
